Three cheers for National Poetry Month, always a happy month for poets! I’d like to celebrate this anthology, edited by the fabulous, hard-working Sylvia Vardell for Penguin/DK Books, 2020. Sylvia was good enough to include two of my poems, “Make a Joyful Noise” and “Dream Train” which I’ll post below. It’s a joy to share pages with many contemporary poet friends as well as our predecessors such as Emily Dickinson, Christina Rossetti, Robert Louis Stevenson, and William Makepeace Thackaray. Truly a magnificent anthology, reminiscent of those large poetry tomes we had as kids.
Here is my poem, “Dream Train.” Apparently Sylvia saw this on Kenn Nesbitt’s poetryminute.org/dream-train-by-b-j-lee/. Originally published in the SFF magazine, “Beyond Centauri,” it was nominated for the SFF Rhysling Award in 2012 and subsequently appeared in The 2013 Rhysling Anthology. But though this poem was published in adult venues, it really is meant for children. I am grateful to Kenn Nesbitt and Sylvia Vardell for bringing it back into the kidlitosphere. Here’s the poem:

Thank you, Ruth. My grandma’s house was right near a train track, and I loved to sleep over and hear the trains in the night. Probably the inspiration for the poem.

Hooray! What a beautiful poem. I have been “thinking” of starting a website for a while now. The process of knowing what categories and subcategories I want is a bit overwhelming. I will indeed check out your website to see how you tackled this brain-teaser of a project!

Congratulations on your new “home.” It’s beautiful. I did take a little click around and found it easy to learn so much more about your work.
I enjoyed your poem as well. Thank you for sharing it (and Sylvia’s anthology). I just keep considering what it must be like to visit the place where dawn is born and sunlight is perfect. It sounds like a place where you are sure to find more poetry.
